Dusting the cob webs off my blog!

Well its been too long since I posted on my blog and the longer its been the more I've put off catching up. I have had a terrible few months since my last post, lost my job and both my mum and my eldest daughter have had some major health problems so blogging was the last thing on my mind. All things happen for a reason though and it has made me re evaluate  a few things in my life! I have now embarked on a Holistic course at college and plan to build upon my existing qualifications and skills and work towards building my own business (long term plan) in the meant time though I have hopefully secured a new job working with adults with learning difficulties part time to pay the bills while I get through my studies. I didn't totally stop crafting while I've been away, just haven't done as much and also didn't take many photos. I did take photos of two cards, that being one simple one I made for my Son Liam who is game obsessed

and a quick sweet card that I made for my niece in Australia

I plan to crack on and make some more today so I will see if I am able to get back into the routine of posting on my blog again x

Also in addition to me re blogging I came across a very generous candy give away and Bearly mine crafts blog ..........and who doesnt like candy give aways? Interested? then click the link below x

Good luck everyone :) x

Happy Fathers Day :)

I know, I know this is a tad late but I've had a busy but fun day today with my children and Dad, I don't often get to spend Fathers Day with my Dad as I live 300 miles away from my family so today was very special. I havent been blogging for a while as I have a few personal things going on that have knocked me off kilter but I'm pulling through slowly. This is the first card I've made in a few weeks and i'ts what I made for my Dad, and features his Triumph Rocket III bike on the front (well not actually his).

I found covering the card I cut out from A4 into this shape difficult to cover in paper stock but this was my first attempt out of my comfort zone as I usually stick to rectangle or square cards to work with. I added a verse inside that brought tears to his eyes bless him

I think I need to invest in a new camera as the pictures are coming out burred!

I would like to enter this into the following challenges
Simply create too - Happy Fathers Day (or for a male)
 C.R.A.F.T Challenge - Fathers Day
Dream valley challenges - For that special guy
Fab 'n' Funky - Fathers Day

And finally here's a pic of my wonderful Dad and his bike and also of my Dad and me (with hair!!) when I was little
Love you dad your the best xxxxxx

I thought I'd also add a photo of my dad and my son leaving for the Isle of man TT races, My son had such a great time!

(If my Step mum saw her laundry all over this last pic I'm sure she would freak out hehehe)

Ribbon shop

Thought I would make a quick mention to the ribbon shop I found through a blog and discovered it's right at my doorstep last night while blog hopping so popped in today for a nosey. Its packed to the brim in every ribbon you could think of and I bet I could find a ribbon for every card idea I have in there. I only had a few pounds left until pay day at the end of the month so couldn't go mad but I'm sure I will once I have a little more in the bank. I thought I would give them a shout on my blog as although I know not everyone comments on my blog I do seem to get a fair bit of traffic come through and read my posts.

They are having an event at the moment and currently on day 11 (although you can still enter previous events until June 3rd) Come find them here at Crafty Ribbons or their online shop where you can see all their stock.

where has the time gone???

Wow hasn't time flown, I was sure it had only been about two weeks since I last posted but it appears not! Nearly a month has gone by and not had much time to craft :( Its not all bad though as work has just been a little full on as we have been preparing for an open day in my office to attempt to get more awareness about in the community in regards to the help and support we can give to people suffering at the hands of substance misuse and drinking problems. In that I don't just mean breaking the downward spiral and cycle of individual users but also the support we offer to relatives, friends and family and also others who are close to individuals who use/drink and may become affected by another's substance misuse ( we run relative support groups and 121's and so wanted to promote this further). Anyway the open day was busy, we had a few presentations and talks followed by a healthy summer buffet and then onto alternative therapy tester sessions to show what we offer our clients. All this equals a tired but content bunny that was ready to get some beach therapy this weekend....oh yes!

I've had a fab weekend I managed to get to the beach on Saturday with my two boys (my daughter went to another beach with her friends as apparently I wasn't 'cool' enough that day hahaha. My boys bought water guns on the way with their chore money and played for hours burying each other in sand, digging random holes, swimming and playing with their water guns (lucky for everyone where we went Shell Bay is a fairly quiet but gorgeous beach so no annoyed sunbathers ;)   )  After this I cooked our tea on a BBQ and then caught the chain ferry over to Poole and Bournemouth to go visit some friends of mine and my children's for the evening.

Today I've had the chance to enjoy the sun again and headed out to my daughters friends charity event called Teddy 20 in memory of her younger brother who died of cancer 2 years ago as they have events on all the time in aid of children's Cancer charities. I did a little face painting before heading home and then chilled out in the back garden in the sun with some of my crafty bits for the first time in weeks. I think I did pretty well as my boys kept charging around with their water guns and a few times I really though I was going to get drenched but luckily my craft bits saved the day as they know how precious my crafty bits are to me!! So here is the card I made below, I decided to theme it red white and blue as those were the colours for today's charity event as well as the up and coming Queens jubilee and also because I picked up this cute Forever friends stamp about a week ago.

Portobello road papers form papermania
Forever friend stamp image and the sentiment was from a free pack of clear stamps which I got with a magazine
Various hand made flowers using tattered florals from Tim Holtz Bigz dies as well as smaller mulbury paper roses from wild orchard crafts
I also used other Die shapes cutters such Spellbinders Nestabilities - Lacey squares, small Spellbinders Nestabilities - Labels four and Sizzix swirls
Finally Finished off with Tim Holtz distress inks

I'd like to enter this into :

*papertake weekly - True colours
*Cupcake Craft challenges - Royalty......( I went with Royal-tea :)  )
*Fashionista Challenge - Simply Summer
*Craft your days away - Red, White and Blue  (Edit...I won top 3 for this!! chuffed to bits!!)
*Penny Black - London Celebrates

So that's it for now other than some packing as I'm heading up North this coming weekend to drop my youngest off with my dad as he's going camping for a week in the Isle of Man for the TT bike Ralley and oh does he love his granddad to pieces! It has been over a year since my last drive up so I am looking forward to seeing all my family :)

Well that's it for now, night all x

Missed a linky deadline for April showers brings May flowers Challenge :(

Had issues with my internet all day and although I managed to sort it with minutes to go (so I thought) only to find I'd missed it.

Anyway although I did this especially for a challenge I'm still going to put it up here and so here it is

New stuff :D

Well had a fab day yesterday as managed to get out (child free!!) and attended to the creative craft show at Shepton Mallet (Bath and West show grounds) for the first time ever with my friend, I was a very happy bunny :D.  I bought some bits I've had on my 'want' list for a while to top up my kit and also some one off bargins for bigger projects when I get the time.

Anyway this is the card I've made this week for my step mum Jacqui's upcoming birthday in June. She loves bumble bees maybe due to the fact the hairdressers she owns is called J Bee's and its grown from there? Now yellow is really not my favourite colour and really struggled to find the right yellow papers but I had a lucky reduced pack find at the craft show and with a little distress ink and a bit of masking I kind of got the look I wanted. Now I would not have normally set out to do a yellow themed card and still not sure if I went a little over kill or not but I'm a big believer in learning from your mistakes

So here's the card........

I love this image of Rosabelle from Kraftin Kimmie although thinking of investing in some finer nibs for my Letraset markers after inking this as she has some tiny ankles!

I dyed some straw mesh ribbon black and pulled it apart so it looked messy as I didn't like the uniformed straight edges, I have wanted to incorporate this ribbon for some time on a card and hope it fits well? I also had loads of fun inking up and stamping some card before die cutting petals to create these rose's. I even got my daughter inking and making some larger rose's of her own (she's not like me with arts and crafts so I was a little shocked to say the least but she admitted to enjoying it) and may have planted a seed?????

I finished the card with a sentiment form Lilly of the valley and crackle glaze on the wings topped with a touch of glitter here and there on the card to give it some bling.

I would like to enter this card in for....
*Saturated Colours at TotallyPaperCrafts
*Colour inspiration at Creations by Gill M
* Spring Bling at Stamptacular Sunday challenge
*Get your girly on at southern girls challenge
*For a special lady at Dream valley challenges
*Spring at Crafts 4 eternity
*The letter B at Catered Crop Obviously referring to the beautiful Bee Lady Rosabelle
*Cut it out at Passion for Pro marker

Well  that's all for now, have plenty of ideas floating around and feeling inspired after a fully crafty weekend....smiles all round

Please leave feedback as I love to read through them and meet new friends.....please also follow if you wish xx

Sunday, 22 April 2012

Ok so as usual nothing goes to plan and I didn't get round to doing all the cards I set out to do, I did how ever manage to get my brothers card done after spending some fun messing around with distress inks to create some of my own papers to use on this card and future ones. This is the first time I've attempted creating my own papers and despite initial reservations that it would all go wrong I ended up covered in ink and had so much fun! anyway here is the card I've made for my brother just in time to pop it in the post tomorrow and make it to Oz in time for his birthday.
I'm going to enter my first challenges with this card which are:
*Boys dig it at 4 crafty chicks
*Men only at Sparkles monthly challenges
*Loaded with layers at Stamptacular Sunday challenge Blog
*It's a man thing at Crafty Ann's challenge
*card for a man at Everybody-art-challenge
*Inspired by film title at Secret crafters Saturday Challenge and my film inspiration for this card is Easy Rider
*Make it old at Sweet and sassy digi challenges
*Loads of layers at Delicious doodles
*Earth tones at Dream valley challenges

Its very dull here today and haven't managed to catch the metallic accents on the card as much as I would have liked. I found a picture of an old vintage bike in black and white and printed it out onto some card, added some greys shading with pro markers and a pencil, distressed most of the edges of paper and card stock by either using scissors, tearing and also screwing up the paper I designed then went Tim Holtz distress ink mad on all my card and stock.

I finished this card by inking up some Tim Holtz gadget gears die cuts. I'm hoping my brother likes it :)

The last card I managed to make was a card my daughter asked me to make with 20 minutes notice as she was going to a friends birthday and forgot to ask me to make one earlier, so it did feel a little unfinished as it was a bit of a mad rush especially seen as all my craft items are stored in the back of my laundry cupboard and takes so long to pull out! Any way here it is......

Maybe sometimes simple is better? I'm not sure as the middle looks bare to me???? Anyway here I used a Gorjuss stamp image and some old paper stock I've been meaning to use for sometime and then distressed it with black soot Tim Holtz distress ink around the edges. I used a Sizzix die cut corner flourish and added some pink mulberry roses that I also distressed with the same black soot ink, I then added a stamped sentiment onto some lace. I'm still being critical of my inking and keep looking at what I could have done better to the hair but its still a learning curve to me as find black hair hard to get right
